ESEL – Lisbon School of Nursing – was founded in 2004, resulting from the merger of the four existing Lisbon public Nursing Schools. ESEL's mission is to be a center for the creation, development, transmission and dissemination of nursing culture and science, which aims at excellence and innovation, seeking to be a reference in nursing education, both nationally and internationally, in the Portuguese-speaking countries and Europe.
ESEL develops its activities in two poles, located in the buildings of the schools that gave rise to it. the Gulbenkian Hub, which serves as the headquarters, and where graduate training takes place, and the Ravara Hub, where postgraduate training takes place.
ESEL has extensive training activities in terms of courses granting academic degrees, but also postgraduate and short-term courses.
Among the multiple organizational structures that allow ESEL to achieve its mission, the Center for Research, Innovation and Development in Nursing of Lisbon (CIDNUR) stands out, as a differentiated unit dedicated to the development of Research and Development (R&D) activities.
