Chronic diseases are a global epidemic responsible for more than 70% of deaths worldwide. Changing and sustaining desirable healthy lifestyle behaviours are fundamental to the prevention and management of chronic diseases. Healthcare and other professionals are expected to support behaviour change for the self-management of chronic disease, including interventions to effectively improve diet, increase physical activity and adhere to chronic treatments.
This course is a component of the Train4Health project (https://www.train4health.eu/) and its extended educational package, which comprises in addition to the MOOC, case studies and simulation software. These educational products have been produced by experts in the field, allowing for a robust learning experience applied to different areas of intervention in health and wellbeing.
This course is primarily targeted at undergraduate students from healthcare and sport sciences. It also aims to interest health-related practitioners and other professionals involved with behaviour change, such as psychologists and social workers.
Effective interventions targeting a range of health behaviours are still not the norm in routine encounters between professionals and their clients. This course provides specific training coupled with practical tools to facilitate participants' future performance in changing behaviours effectively, thus reducing the challenges for professionals in chronic disease care.
Participants will be evaluated through quizzes and multiple-choice questionnaires at the end of each Module.
