What you will learn

  • Explain the three fundamental pillars of a smart territory.
  • Identify at least three real cases of the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in urban or rural contexts, highlighting their impacts on efficiency and sustainability.
  • Analyse two sustainable good practices adopted in smart cities or villages.
  • Identify three rural activities that integrate smart technologies and describe one concrete benefit for each.
  • Evaluate two digital technologies with a proven impact on social inclusion and quality of life, and justify their relevance with examples of practical application.
  • Explain at least two ways in which Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are used in urban planning, tourism or training.
  • Create a brief proposal for a local pilot project for a smart and sustainable community, integrating at least two of the technologies studied and with clear social, environmental or economic objectives.

Description

Explore the Future of Smart Territories!

In this innovative course, you will explore the concepts and practices that are transforming cities and rural areas into smart territories. Discover how technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the latest innovations in Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) can revolutionise quality of life by promoting more connected, efficient and inclusive environments.

Analyse how these technologies interact and complement each other, enabling interoperability between systems and creating integrated solutions for urban and rural challenges. The course also highlights essential topics such as sustainability, solar energy, smart mobility, recycling, and the application of intelligent systems in areas such as agriculture, livestock farming and rural tourism.

More than technology, this course focuses on promoting social inclusion and quality of life, showing how smart territories can act as drivers in reducing inequalities and building more sustainable and resilient communities.

Assessment and certification

At the end of each module, in order to assess your progress, you will take a test with a mandatory knowledge check, which will account for 50% of the final grade.

At the end of the course, you will take a Final Assessment Test, which will account for 50% of the final grade.
