What you will learn

  • Understand the concept of a cell
  • Know about the different types of cells
  • Analyse the many types of biochemical molecules and how they determine cell structure and function
  • Recognize the different components of a cell and their specific role

Description

In this course, we will embark on a journey into the fascinating world of cells. Cells, the fundamental units of life, are the building blocks of all living organisms. Understanding their structure, functions, and processes is crucial for comprehending the intricate mechanisms that govern life itself.

Cells are remarkable entities, each carrying out complex tasks that sustain life. By studying cell biology, you will gain insights into the underlying mechanisms of processes such as cell division, metabolism, and DNA replication. This knowledge unravels the mysteries of life itself and allows us to appreciate the intricacies of the natural world.

Cell biology is not confined to the realm of academia; its applications extend into diverse fields. By understanding cell biology, you will be better equipped to pursue careers in medicine, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, genetics, and bioengineering. Moreover, it provides a strong foundation for understanding diseases and their treatments, as many diseases manifest at the cellular level.

Format

The course is composed of 2 modules. Each module consists of video lectures followed by a multiple-choice quiz (except for the "Introduction to the course" lecture). The modules and video lectures should be used in the given order, however, you can go back and forward between them as much as you wish.

Assessment and certification

For each module, there are multiple-choice quizzes at the end of the video lectures. After having looked at all the tabs, browsed through all the videos, and answered all the quizzes with approval, if you achieve a score of 50% or more you will be able to obtain the certificate of participation.
