Prof. Iva Miranda Pires is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Social and Humanity Sciences of the New University of Lisbon. She currently coordinates M.A. and Ph.D. Programs in Human Ecology at the Sociology Department in Lisbon. Dr. Pires is a senior researcher at the CICS - Interdisciplinary Centre of Social Sciences – where she was involved in the coordination and as a team member of several research projects funded by the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) as well as international projects. Dr. Pires co-coordinated a Project on Food Waste in Portugal, a Green Ideas Award 2011 that calculated the first estimate on food loss and waste in Portugal. Her main scientific areas of research are food waste, sustainable development, and social and economic geography.
